PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically adjust the uniformness of the width and pressure of a nip formed by the fixing roll and pressure roll of an electrophotographic apparatus. SOLUTION: The nip is formed by the contact of the fixing roll and the pressure roll. The pressure roll applies pressure to the fixing roll. The torque of a drive system that drives a fixing member is monitored by a torque sensor. Based upon the torque monitored, a nip pressure adjusting device adjusts the nip pressure so that the nip pressure is uniform within a predetermined specification range. In addition, at least one speed of the pressure roll, the fixing roll, or a medium passing through the nip is monitored.
