The device for the damping of torsional vibrations of rotors (2) has a balancing system (6) installed on the rotor, and a continuous plastic layer (4) between the rotor and balancing system. The plastic layer may be in the form of plastic rings lying next to one another between the rotor and balancing system. The plastic rings are spaced apart and extend parallel to the rotational axis of the rotor. The inner side of the balancing system and/or outer side of the rotor is roughened in the regions upon which lies the plastic layer. An independent claim is included for the use of a balancing system as a damping mass for the damping of torsional vibrations on a rotor.
