<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative image recording material excellent in storage stability, printing durability and image forming property and suitable particularly for a lithographic printing plate precursor suitable for drawing with laser light, and to provide a polymerizable composition for an image recording layer thereof. <P>SOLUTION: The polymerizable composition contains (A) a polymerizable compound of an asymmetric structure having an ethylenically unsaturated bond, (B) a binder polymer which is substantially soluble or swellable in water or an aqueous alkali solution, and (C) a compound which generates a radical under light or heat.
