OPTICAL MODULATING ELEMENT AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To flatten a frequency response characteristic of an optical modulating element and to provide an optical modulating element which realizes easiness and low cost of manufacture. SOLUTION: The optical modulating element which has a substrate with electrooptical effect, an optical waveguide formed on the substrate, and a control electrode for modulation control over a light wave propagated in the optical waveguide is provided with a flattening means of flattening the frequency response characteristic of the optical modulating element at a portion of an operation part for modulation control over the light wave propagated in the optical waveguide by the control electrode. Preferably, the flattening means flattens the frequency response characteristic by reducing the induction phase quantity of the light wave generated at an operation part which is an operation part provided with a flattening means and other than the flattening means.
