PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of utilizing an action of heavy backing, and improving an operating characteristic of an ultrasonic vibrator or enhancing the function of the ultrasonic vibrator. SOLUTION: A heavy backing member 16 is joined with the lower side of a vibration element 10. The thickness of the element continuously varies along an elevation direction. A light backing action is made to act to the middle of the vibration element 10 in the Y direction and vibration is generated in a 2f vibration mode, and on the other hand, the heavy backing action is activated at the end in the Y direction and vibration is generated in an f vibration mode. As a result, the vibration element 10 is broadbanded. Further, the size of the opening in the elevation direction can be adjusted by varying the band of a transmission signal.
