PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material excellent in color toner stability of an unexposed portion and in image preservability of an exposed portion, and to provide an image forming method for the same. SOLUTION: In the heat developable photosensitive material, a non-photosensitive intermediate layer A containing a binder is disposed next to an image forming layer containing a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive silver salt of an organic acid, a reducing agent and a binder, the binder in the non-photosensitive intermediate layer A contains≥80 mass% of a polymer formed by copolymerizing a monomer represented by the formula (M): CH<SB>2</SB>=CR<SP>01</SP>-CR<SP>02</SP>=CH<SB>2</SB>, a non-photosensitive intermediate layer B containing a binder is disposed between an outermost layer on the image forming layer side and the non-photosensitive intermediate layer A, and the binder in at least one of the outermost layer and the non-photosensitive intermediate layer B contains≥50 mass% of a hydrophilic polymer derived from animal protein. The heat developable photosensitive material satisfies at least one of the following conditions (1) and (2); (1) the photosensitive silver halide is chemically sensitized by at least one method selected from the group consisting of gold sensitization, chalcogen sensitization and reduction sensitization, (2) the image forming layer further contains a compound represented by formula (1).
