PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound recording apparatus capable of recording a plurality of data which are recorded on a first recording medium for non-randomly recording data, in different files, respectively when transferring, for dubbing, the data to a second recording medium for randomly recording the data for the unit of a file. SOLUTION: When reading a video signal and an audio signal recorded on a magnetic tape 6a, transferring the signals to a DVD signal processing circuit 5 and dubbing them onto a DVD 5a, a VTR signal processing circuit 6 detects whether or not a VISS signal is included in the signals read from the magnetic tape 6a. If the VTR signal processing circuit 6 detects the VISS signal, a DVD main microcomputer 1 divides data which are recorded on the DVD 5a until detecting the VISS signal, and data which are to be recorded on the DVD 5a after detecting the VISS signal, into different files using the DVD signal processing circuit 5 and creates management information for managing the files.
