PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely perform highly reliable cutting work with a simple and compact structure in a trench cutter. SOLUTION: This trench cutter 10 for excavating a trench comprises a pair of cutting wheels 12 and 14 on rotating shafts 16 and 18 disposed offset each other. Cutting gears 20 are formed in the cutting wheels 12 and 14. Drive wheel rows 40 and 50 are disposed at acute angles relative to the axis of a sun gear 32 while facing upward from the rotating shafts 16 and 18. The drive wheel rows 40 and 50 are engaged with the sun gear 32 to form a means for a gear arrangement 30. The sun gear 32 is driven through the main drive shaft 36 of a single drive motor. Namely, the single drive motor drives both the pair of cutting wheels 12 and 14 by using the sun gear 32 and the means of the gear arrangement 30 of the drive wheel rows 40 and 50.
