PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus by which an additional application function can be purchased/downloaded later. SOLUTION: The management station stores a group of application ID, apparatus ID, user ID, and key ID as application information at the time of purchasing/downloading an additional application to the apparatus and transfers a license key which is a hash value of these four sorts of IDs to the apparatus. The apparatus stores the received three sorts of IDs and the license key in a memory card. At the time of downloading, the apparatus transmits the user ID, the application ID and the apparatus ID to the management station and the management stations permits download only when a collating license key prepared from the three sorts of IDs and the stored key ID coincides with the license key received from the apparatus. When the download is completed, the management station prepares new key ID, prepares a new license key from the user ID, the application ID, the apparatus ID, and the new key ID, transfers the prepared license key to the apparatus, and simultaneously updates the application information stored in itself.
