PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium reproducing device capable of ejecting the recording medium of a different shape from a device main body before it is inserted into the device main body by discriminating the recording medium of the different shape, and a disk recording medium. SOLUTION: A CD player 1 is provided with a device main body 5, a conveying unit 6, a pair of position regulating members 22, and a detecting/discriminating unit 7. The detecting/discriminating unit 7 is provided with a plurality of detection sensors 1, a CPU 14 and the like. A detection sensor 11 is arranged on an ellipse E whose major axis A overlaps a center line P passing through a center between the pair of position regulating members 22. An interval between the detection sensors 11 is longer than the short side of a card shape CD and is shorter than the outer diameter of a small diameter CD. The CPU 14 makes the conveying unit 6 house the CD in the device main body 5 when the plurality of detection sensors 11 simultaneously detect the CD, and eject the CD from the device main body 5 when the plurality of detection sensors 11 do not detect the CD.
