PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal ring inspection apparatus for solving a problem of excessive defect detection and a problem of cost increase. SOLUTION: The metal ring inspection apparatus having a defect inspection section for inspecting the surface defects of a metal ring after performing both of or one of perimeter correction and perimeter measurement comprises a determination reference generation means (threshold value selection section 49) for generating generating criteria for inspecting defects at the defect inspection section, on the basis of perimeter correction information or perimeter measurement information or other pieces of information related to the information. These pieces of information indicate the perimeter of the metal ring, the perimeter and a lamination position when incorporating the metal ring into a CVT belt are in a fixed relationship (innermost periphery layer→small perimeter, outermost periphery layer→large perimeter, and middle layer→middle perimeter), thus obtaining criteria corresponding to the lamination position of the metal ring.
