PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring device capable of measuring accurately the position of an object or the distance thereto with simple configuration without invading privacy. SOLUTION: This monitoring device is equipped with a transmitter RO for transmitting a wave propagating in a space, a receiver S41 for receiving the wave transmitted by the transmitter RO and reflected by the object 2, an amplifier S51 for amplifying the wave received by the receiver S41, a differential waveform operation means C for operating the waveform difference between the first waveform amplified by the amplifier S51 of a wave received at the first point of time T by the receiver S41 and the second waveform amplified by the amplifier S51 of a wave received at the second point of time T+ΔT different from the first point of time T, and a required time measuring means B for measuring a required time from transmission of the wave from the transmitter RO until reception thereof by the receiver S41 through reflection by the object 2 based on the waveform difference when the waveform difference is detected.
