<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup device and recording and reproducing apparatus in which optimal recording and reproducing laser beams can be generated for optical recording media of different standards by a single optical pickup device. <P>SOLUTION: When a liquid crystal control section 29 applies a voltage to a liquid crystal 22, since laser light transmitted through the liquid crystal 22 is not polarized, non-diffracted light 26a is outputted without diffraction in a diffraction grating 23. The non-diffracted light 26a is transmitted through a beam splitter 24 and refracted by an objective lens 25, and forms a light spot 12a on an information recording plane of an optical disk 27. Reflection light reflected on the information recording plane is inversely transmitted through the objective lens 25, is perpendicularly reflected by the beam splitter 24 and reaches a photodetector section 28 wherein a photodiode is integrated. The photodiode generates an electric signal corresponding to the quantity of incident light, and a non-illustrated signal processing section extracts data recorded on the optical disk 27 from the generated electric signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
