PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make focusing operation fast by a contrast AF type focusing method. SOLUTION: It is decided whether a photographic environment is indoor or outdoor from the output level of infrared rays and a focusing lens 1 is moved in a 1st section A close to an object S when the environment is indoor or in a 2nd section B far away from the object S when outdoor, thereby obtaining a focusing point.
