PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorbing steering device that has a small number of components in a structure for varying the absorption of collapse load, does not require high component accuracy or assembling accuracy, and hence reduces the cost. SOLUTION: The impact absorbing steering device has a bracket 3 for mounting a vehicle body fixed to a vehicle body member 1 of the automobile. The front part of a steering column is turnably supported by the bracket 3 for mounting the vehicle body via a tilt hinge 9, and the rear part of the steering column is vertically movably supported by an adjusting bracket 7 by the bracket 3 movably in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. An impact absorbing means A for varying the absorbency of the collapse load is disposed between the bracket 3 and the adjusting bracket 7, and is arranged on the upside of the adjusting bracket 7.
