PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide connection constitution between a panel and an externally connected substrate in which a connection area between the panel and the substrate is reduced in order to obtain a device which uses the panel and is made as small-sized as possible, and to provide a device using the above connection constitution. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal device has: a liquid crystal panel 20 provided with a couple of substrates 1 and 2 having a couple of electrodes, an electrooptical conversion member 4 held between those substrates 1 and 2, and a seal material which is provided between the substrates 1 and 2 and seals the peripheral edge of the electrooptical conversion member 4; and an external connection member connected to the electrodes, wherein a connection portion which connects the external connection member 15 and a wiring electrode as a lead-out wire of the electrode is arranged on the surface of one substrate on the opposite side from the electrooptical conversion member 4 and at the position where the couple of substrates face each other, and connected to the wiring electrode through a side face of the one substrate or a through hole.
