PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely remove dirt such as developer adhering to the bristles of the rotary brush and also to prevent the irregularities of the bristles of the rotary brush. SOLUTION: Many bristles of an electrifying brush 41 are pressed against the press-contact surface 46a of a foaming elastic member 46 with the rotation of the electrifying brush 41. At such a time, the dirt such as the developer adhering to many bristles of the electrifying brush 41 is scraped by each small hole on the press-contact surface 46a of the foaming elastic member 46, and the scraped dirt such as the developer is shifted to each of the small holes on the press-contact surface 46a, then many bristles of the electrifying brush 41 are cleaned from the part near the root. Continuously, many bristles of the electrifying brush 41 are pressed against the smooth surface 47a of a slide plate 47 to make the bristles of the electrifying brush 41 uniform in a peripheral direction. Thus, uneven electrification on the surface of a photoreceptor drum 21 caused by the irregularities in the directions of the bristles of the electrifying brush 41 is prevented.
