A fluid adhesive is introduced with a high pressure jet(16) through the material surface and into material layers(19). Penetration of the jet is solely dependent on the jet energy thus ensuring that use of additional mechanical aids is eliminated. Fluid is injected from the rear side or both sides of the material, in particular leather. A series of injections may be made along one or more paths(17), the injections occurring at intervals as the injectors move along the set path. The flat material may also be three-dimensionally formed into a product in which case the injector paths follow the outside of the body. In the latter method application remains normal to the surface. Several injectors controled either separately or as a unit may be arranged in a line which moves across the material surface. Individual injectors in the line may be switched on and off either simultaneously or with a time shift so that parallel processing of the material is possible. An independent claim is made for the process equipment which includes high pressure jet and no mechanical aids.
