The center console (10) for a motor vehicle has several wall elements (11-14) of which at least one has at least one cut-out (18) which is closed off by a plate-form detachable cover (19). The cover forms a device functioning independent of the center console, or forms a component part of the said device. The cut-out is located in a side wall of the center console. A centering element (26) centers the cover in the cut-out, and an edge section (25) of the cover overlaps the edge section (24) of the cut-out.
