PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a standby type power supply apparatus which can assure stability and which can reduce the size and the weight. SOLUTION: The standby type power supply apparatus includes a filter reactor connected through a trolley wire and a pantograph, a diode connected in series with this filter reactor, a contactor connected in series with the diode, a charging resistor connected in parallel with the contactor, a switching unit connected in series with the contactor, two inverters connected in series with the switching unit and switched by the switching unit, a filter capacitor provided between the input and output terminals of the dc input side of the inverters, and a switching unit provided at the ac output side of the two inverters to switch the two inverters.
