PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer-supporting transition metal complex which has a simple structure, can be easily prepared at a low cost and can be suitably used as a polymer-supporting transition metal complex catalyst that can stand repetitive use of at least 10 times, preferably at least a few dozens times, the catalyst and a ligand for the catalyst. SOLUTION: The polymer-supporting transition metal complex is prepared by contacting a phosphorus-containing styrene copolymer (A) with a metal salt or a transition metal complex represented by formula (B): M-X<SB>q</SB>L<SB>r</SB>(wherein M is a group 9 or 10 transition metal atom or a group 9 or 10 transition metal cation with a valency of 1-3; X is a halogen ion or the like; L is a ligand such as triphenylphosphine; and q and r are each independently an integer of≥0), wherein the styrene copolymer (A) is prepared by copolymerizing 30-90 mol% specific styrene monomer, 1-70 mol% diphenyl(p-iospropenylphenyl)phosphine and, if required, 0-30 mol% divinyl benzene, provided that the total amount of monomers ((1a)+(2a)+(3a)) is 100 mol%.
