PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new catenane compound and to provide a method for producing the catenane compound and to provide a new cross-linked polycatenane having a polycatenane structure and obtained from the new catenane compound and to provide a method for producing the polycatenane. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a new catenane compound represented by formula (a) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>7</SP>may be the same or different and they are each a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group which may contain an oxygen atom or an aromatic hydrocarbon group), a method for producing the catenane compound and a new cross-linked polycatenane and a method for producing the polycatenane.
