<p>The invention relates to a machine for inspecting the coupling system used to hitch a semi-trailer to a towing vehicle. The inventive machine comprises a base platform (1) having a sliding platform (9) mounted thereon. The sliding platform receives the rear wheels (4) of the towing vehicle which is equipped with a coupling system or fifth wheel (3), said vehicle being fixed in place with the aid of wedges (10, 11) which immobilise the rear wheels (4) thereof. The rear end of the platform terminates in a support structure (5) for an upper bridge (6) which is parallel to the base platform (1) and which can be adjusted vertically and transversely. The aforementioned bridge bears a lower mobile plate (7) having a king-pin (8) disposed thereon, said king-pin being similar to that of a semi-trailer. In this way, when the lower platform (9) and the bridge (6) are moved, the king-pin (7) can be positioned opposite the fifth wheel (3), and the subsequent movement of the plate (7) determines the definitive coupling between the king-pin and the fifth wheel. Forces are then immediately supplied to the king-pin (8) and said forces can be used to control the relative movements between the king-pin (8) and the fifth wheel (3), and, consequently, the state of the latter, by means of a telemetry system.</p> |
