<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase longitudinal reading resolution of a bar code without increasing the number of image detection elements specific to an image sensor. <P>SOLUTION: In a bar code reader having the image sensor part 10a, the image sensor part 10a reads in a right half bar code image of a bar code incident via a red filter 2R as a first filter and a mirror 31 and a half mirror 32 as first optical means, and reads in a left half bar code image of the bar code incident via a blue filter 2B as a second filter and the half mirror 32 as second optical means.
