PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an article information reader of a high-rise warehouse which always accurately detects and updates a position of a carrying article without requiring a program of complicated tracking. SOLUTION: An article detecting sensor 3<SB>-i</SB>and an antenna 4<SB>-i</SB>are arranged for respective plural unit article storage areas 11<SB>-i</SB>. In reading, an article existence signal from the article sensor 3<SB>-i</SB>is read in order for respective unit article storage areas 11<SB>-i</SB>, and the existence signal is stored in a register 1a. When an article exists, a relay contact point 5<SB>-i</SB>is closed, and the antenna 4<SB>-i</SB>is connected to a reader circuit 2, and article information is read by an IC tag 14 of the article existing in its unit article storage areas 11<SB>-i</SB>by the antenna 4<SB>-i</SB>, to be stored in the register 1a. Such processing is repeated, and the existence-nonexistence of the article for respective unit article storage areas 11<SB>-i</SB>and the article information are stored in the register when the article exists.
