PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a folding-type portable device in which a signal transmission line connecting an operation part to a display part can be manufactured inexpensively into a small shape, and a form (closed form) closing the operation part and the display part can easily be detected. SOLUTION: When a portable telephone set is in an open configuration as shown in drawing (a), an output optical signal of a laser diode 6 is inputted to a photodiode 7 through a pore 8. When it is in a close configuration as shown in drawing (b), an optical axis of the laser diode 6 and that of the pore 8 makes a large angle, and outgoing light of the laser diode 6 cannot be made incident on the pore 8. Since a level of the optical signal received by the photodiode 7 becomes smaller than a prescribed value, the open configuration can be recognized. The power of a display panel is intercepted and the consumption of power can be suppressed. The close configuration can be detected without the need of a component such as an exceptional opening/closing sensor and a switch for detecting the close configuration. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
