PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali saponification method of a polymer film which permits prevention of corrosion of a rod for a coating apparatus in a saponification treatment using a rod coating method. SOLUTION: The alkali saponification treatment of the polymer film comprises an alkali solution-coating step for coating the polymer film with an alkali solution, a temperature-maintaining step for maintaining the polymer film at room temperature or a higher temperature, a reaction-terminating step for terminating the reaction of the alkali solution by coating the polymer film with a diluent solvent or an acidic solution, and a washing step for washing away the alkali solution from the polymer film. In at least one step of the alkali solution-coating step and the reaction-terminating step, a rod coating is carried out using the rod for the coating apparatus and a rolling bar 10 is used as the rod for the coating apparatus.
