PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sanitary U-shaped side ditch and a construction method of its U-shaped side ditch, for reducing the number of part items, easy in manufacture, without hindering flow of water, and allowing a small animal to easily escape. SOLUTION: This U-shaped side ditch 1 is formed in a cross-sectional substantially U shape with mutually opposing one side wall part 1A, the other side wall part 1B and a bottom surface part 1C for joining mutual one end parts of these side wall parts 1A and 1B. One side wall part 1A is vertically formed outward at an inclination ofα°. An escape part 2 for allowing the small animal to escape is arranged on its inner surface.
