PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoelectric sensor capable of detecting an object color accurately without increasing working man-hours. SOLUTION: Each ratio Ur, Ub, Ug between the sum Zr+Zb+Zg of received light quantity levels of light having different wavelengths received by a light receiving element 15 and each received light quantity level Zr, Zb, Zg of light having each wavelength when an achromatic sheet is arranged on a detection domain is stored. It is determined whether the stored ratios Ur, Ub, Ug approximately agree with the ratios Tr, Tb, Tg of each received light quantity level Xr, Xb, Xg of detected light having each wavelength or not. When determined that the ratios of both received light quantity levels are approximately the same, the sheet 30 is supposed to be achromatic, and the sheet 30 color is detected based on the sum Xr+Xb+Xg of the received light quantity levels of light having different colors.
