PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slit looper and a sewing machine with the slit looper constituted so as to easily engaging a looper thread to especially a thread hole at distal end of the looper concerning the slit looper of a chain stitch sewing machine and a sewing machine equipped with the slit looper. SOLUTION: The slit opening for thread engaging from the upper face of the looper is formed in a thread hole of the looper, and a slit opening portion inclined from the distal end side to the rear end side is formed in the upper surface of the looper in the slit. The chain stitch sewing machine has the slit looper. The looper thread can be easily threaded through the thread hole by threading through the slit by forming the slit in the thread hole. In particular, the thread engaging to the distal end portion can be easily done, the thread does not come off in practical sewing operation, the sewing same as a conventional one using double-ring looper passed through a thread hole can be realized.
