The Bailey bridge consists of sections to form a profile bridge with at least two carriageways (1a,b), connected by cross struts defining the bridge width, and wedge sections at the end for driving-on. The cross struts are adjustable in length between the bridge sections, to adjust the distance between the sections between min. and max. width. A cross strut is formed by a spindle (5), a pair of trapeze arms (6), and hinge ends (7) on the end of the arm associated with the bridge sections. The other trapeze arm end (8) has a spindle nut moving on the spindle via a thread. The cross strut may also be formed as an adjusting drive, with levers and hydraulic cylinders.
