A method is described for the diagnosis of solid tumours and haematological neoplastic diseases in humans based on the analysis of the methylation status of the CpG island between nucleotide positions 46801 and 49600 of Genbank sequence AL365229, corresponding to the 5' region of the CDH4 gene, together with nucleic acids, primers and probes useful in said process and a kit comprising such primers and probes.
