A device and a method for efficiently displaying image contents, transferred between a server and a client, in the correct orientation. An image contents providing server holds property information including original angle information that indicates the correct orientation of image contents as image contents metadata. The server generates contents information including the original angle information, and sends it to the client. The client can obtain the correct orientation of image contents received from the server and either rotates the image contents on its own device according to the obtained information or requests the server to obtain correctly-oriented image data and then displays the image data.
