The invention is concerned with automating colour matching between images, particularly in post production environments. The colour distributions in respective images may be matched using a linear process of colour distribution transformation involving Principal Component Analysis. In a second step, which may be performed after the first colour distribution transformation step, a series of one dimensional histograms may be applied along multiple directions in the colour space, the one dimensional histograms being applied to the colour space distributions of both images and describing a change of coordinate system rather than a transform between colour distributions. These one dimensional histograms may be applied in an iterative process and a smoothing post process may also be applied after the iterative process is complete. |
