Method for managing medical image data

The method involves storing medical image data centrally in a storage medium. Access to the image data is controlled by a controller (10). The access to the data is prevented and allowed from an accessing medium through the controller. The access to the data is prevented based on rights of access. The access to the data is made over a digital imaging and communication in medicine (DICOM) protocol.
