Removing inorganic salts from biofuel pellets for burning in power stations, by contacting pellets with pure water

Pure water is used to remove the salts from the pellets by osmosis. A method for removing inorganic compounds from pellets prepared by drying a biomass predominantly comprising bacterial cell material comprises contacting the pellets with an absorption liquid. The inorganic compounds are predominantly salts encapsulated in the pellets and are removed by means of osmosis so that they become dissolved in the liquid. Pure water is used as the absorption liquid.
