PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester-based artificial hair fiber which maintains the fiber characteristics, such as heat resistance, strength and elongation, of an ordinary polyester fiber, has excellent setting property, touch, transparency, and dripping resistance, and has controlled fiber gloss, and to provide a polyester-based artificial hair fiber having excellent flame retardancy. SOLUTION: This polyester-based artificial hair fiber which maintains the fiber characteristics, such as heat resistance, strength and elongation, of an ordinary polyester fiber, and has excellent setting property, touch, transparency and dripping resistance is obtained by melt-spinning a polyester-based composition containing organic cross linked particles in a polyester. Further, a polyester-based artificial hair fiber having excellent flame retardancy without causing the deterioration in the physical properties of the fiber is obtained by further containing a phosphorous flame retardant and/or a bromine-based flame retardant.
