PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive tool steel having abrasion resistance, particularly, slurry abrasion resistance, toughness resistance, corrosion resistance and high hardness at a comparatively high-temperature condition; a screw component for an injection molding machine; and a subassembly thereof. SOLUTION: The tool steel comprises, by mass%, 0.9-1.4% C, 0.1-2.0% Si, 0.1-1.0% Mn, 7.0-9.0% Cr, 1.3-2.5% (Mo+1/2W), 2.0-2.5% V, further 0.3% or less in total of one or more elements among 0.1-0.2% Nb, 0.01-0.1% Ti and 0.01-0.1% Zr, and the balance Fe with unavoidably contaminating impurity elements, while further controlling a C content so as to satisfy a chemical equivalent value shown by the expression of Ceq=(1.1-0.06Cr)+0.2[V+(Nb+Ti+Zr)], and the C content into a range between Ceq-0.1 and Ceq+0.15.
