PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, power-saving color thermal printer. SOLUTION: An irradiation opening 11b is formed in the position facing the transfer route of a recording paper 12 on the top face 11a of an exterior cover 11. The irradiation opening 11b is a lighting section to light the interior of a printer body by external light. A filter 32 to block light of a wavelength area optically fixing a magenta thermosensitive coloring layer from among external light coming in from the irradiation opening 11b is arranged below the irradiation opening 11b, and is moved between a shielding position where the filter is inserted into a light path between the irradiation opening 11b and the recording paper 12 on the transfer route and blocks magenta fixing light and a withdrawal position where the filter is withdrawn from the light path, by the filter moving mechanism 33. A system controller 21 moves the filter 32 to the shielding position when a yellow thermal coloring layer is optically fixed and moves the filter 32 to the withdrawal position when the magenta thermal coloring layer is optically fixed by controlling the filter moving mechanism 33.
