PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for discriminating whether a subtype of the genotype B of a hepatitis B virus is Ba or Bj by which the discrimination of HBV/Bj and HBV/Ba is carried out more accurately than a well-known PCR-RFLP (polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism) using MseI site containing nt1838, and more easily than the determination of the whole base sequence of the region (MseI). SOLUTION: It is judged whether the subtype of the genotype B of the hepatitis B virus is Ba or Bj by investigating whether the nt2020 of the gene of the hepatitis B virus is g or not, and/or nt2167 is t or not.
