PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image area setting device and an image area setting method capable of simply setting a motion detection area even if a photography range is changed by the travel of a photography means. SOLUTION: The image area setting device sets the motion detection area in an image obtained by allowing a photographing part 301 to change the photography range for photography. The image area setting device has a detection area production section 108, which sets a first motion detection area in a first image photographed by the photographing part 301, and sets a second motion detection area corresponding to the first motion detection area in a second image based on the relationship between the second image photographed by the photographing part 301 and the first image.
