PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp the light emitting part of which has a bent arc tube shape, whereby build up time of ultraviolet ray output is substantially shortened. SOLUTION: In this low pressure mercury vapor discharge lamp the light emitting part of which has the bent arc tube shape, the inner diameter A of a glass tube at a bent portion is made smaller than the inner diameter B of a straight line portion, or the corner of the outside of the bent portion which is the portion furthest away from a discharge passage 2 is rounded. Thereby, the temperature of the bent portion does not get lower than the temperature of the straight line portion, and mercury filled is not condensed on the glass wall surface of the bent portion, when starting and re-lighting the lamp.
