PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method whereby transferred data bypasses a file system of a computing device and is directly copied to/from a storage medium. SOLUTION: An application issues an application command to a file system of the computing device, wherein the application command includes a data location at a source. The file system allocates space on the medium for the data and generates a list including an identification of each portion of the medium to be used for data storage. Then, the file system issues a file system command to a block driver of the medium, wherein the file system command includes the data location at the source and the generated list. The block driver contacts the source, requests the data at the location thereof, and writes the data to the portions of the medium included in the generated list. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
