PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lead acid storage battery prevented from breakage of a temperature sensing portion due to stretching of a positive electrode plate during repeated use of a lead acid storage battery, capable of precisely measuring the temperature of electrode plate group, and grasping the status of the storage battery as well. SOLUTION: In the lead acid storage battery, a hollow member is extended into the lead acid storage battery so as to be arranged on a positive strap side than a negative electrode strap between the positive strap 2 and the negative strap of the electrode group, and a temperature sensor B is inserted inside the hollow member, and an expanded electrode plate is used at least for the positive electrode plate.
