PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for creating a correcting code capable of reducing a data quantity of writing/reading to/from memory, and to provide a device and method for error correction. SOLUTION: An error correcting code is created for each component of an ECC block, and an error correcting code for the whole ECC block is created by summing each correcting code. Since an error correcting code has linearity, the summation after divided calculations brings the same result as the calculation of the error correcting code for the whole ECC block. Since the ECC block is divided to calculate the error correcting code, a frequency of writing/reading to/from the memory can be limited as the whole ECC block, a data quantity to be written/read to from the memory can be reduced.
