PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device showing a high utilization efficiency of electrical energy, a high luminance, a high color purity and a high efficiency. SOLUTION: The device has an organic thin film containing a light-emitting layer formed between an anode and a cathode and emits light by using electrical energy. The light-emitting device contains a new condensed polycyclic compound represented by formula (1). By using the condensed polycyclic compound, the light-emitting device showing a high color purity, luminance and efficiency can be provided.
