PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose derivative which is soluble in an organic solvent and is not hydrolyzed even when in contact with an acid or an alkali. SOLUTION: The cellulose derivative is represented by general formula (I) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each a 7-25C alkyl group; and R<SB>3</SB>is an amino or dithiocarbamate group).
