PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an emulsion composition in which resin fine particles that can be adhered to both of a polar base material and a non-polar base material are dispersed in water. SOLUTION: This emulsion composition in which the compounded fine particles containing an olefin-based polymer and a styrene- and/or acryl-based polymer in the same particle are dispersed in water can be stably obtained by synthesizing a styrene- and/or acryl-based monomer in the presence of an olefin-based polymer using a specific aqueous polymer that is obtained by a living radical polymerization as a dispersant. Thereby the emulsion composition obtained by the method can be adhered to both of the polar base material and the non-polar base material, because of the surface of the particle taking a compounded form exposing both of the olefin-based polymer and the styrene- and/or the acryl-based polymer.
