<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system capable of efficiently compensating residual dispersion, when wavelength dispersion compensation is performed by using a high slope DCF. <P>SOLUTION: When wavelength dispersion of an optical transmission line of an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system is compensated with a high slope dispersion compensation apparatus having a dispersion slope capable of approximately compensating a dispersion slope with respect to the waveband of the optical transmission line, and having a dispersion compensation property wherein residual dispersion after compensation of the dispersion slope is approximately symmetrical with respect to a wavelength near the center of the waveband, a wavelength multiplex signal is divided into a plurality of waveband groups, and the residual dispersion of the optical transmission line is compensated for each waveband group. Especially, the system is composed by having three-port bandpass filters each of which divides the waveband of the wavelength multiplex signal into its intermediate band and both end bands comprising two bands on its shorter wavelength side and longer wavelength side, and outputs them respectively, and the intermediate band and both end bands are treated as a waveband group respectively, and their wavelength dispersion compensation is performed collectively for each group. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
