<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screen pointer position control device impervious to particle contamination. <P>SOLUTION: Devices 100, 500 for controlling the position of a screen pointer each include an at least partially coherent light source 118 that creates a reflected image by illuminating an imaging surface 124. The devices include navigation sensors 102, 502 that create digital images based on the reflected images and execute movement computations based on the digital images to create movement data based on the movement computations to indicate the relative movement between the imaging surface and the devices.
